Woodward offers a 5 hp (3.7 kW) Electric Drive Test Stand (8909-1057). The stand provides service technicians with convenient and positive methods to test and calibrate mechanical and mechanical- hydraulic governors and actuators.
The basic test stand provides electric drive with speed control from 0 to 2000 rpm. It is suitable for testing and calibrating all basic UG and PG governors. Base and drive adapters for UG and PG configurations are standard equipment.
The hydraulic system provides heated oil to supply the test governor and to maintain operating temperature. Drain is supplied through the table or through a hose directly to the sump.
Large dials show 0 to 600 psi (0 to 4137 kPa) of governor oil pressure and 0 to 100 psi (0 to 690 kPa) of test stand oil pressure. The test stand heats the oil to 200 °F (93 °C) with a replaceable, thermostatically-controlled heating element. A surface thermometer is supplied to check actual governor operating temperature. Actual drive speed of the test stand is shown on a digital tachometer.
Governor feedback is provided through a universal feedback potentiometer that conveniently attaches to any governor output. Feedback allows accurate testing of governor reaction to simulated engine speed or load changes.
Economical options may be added to the basic stand to permit testing and calibration of almost all governor speed setting, safety, and load control features. Special electronic options permit easy testing and calibration of actuators.

The governor test bench is not an engine or turbine, and it is impossible for the user to expect the governor test bench to replace the turbine or engine that ultimately determines the governor's performance. The reason is that any governor test rig can not provide the same driving torque as engine or turbine, driving torque, connection mode, turbocharging effect, acceleration and deceleration effect, linkage control characteristics, etc. Therefore, it is normal that the performance of the same governor mounted on an engine or turbine and mounted on a test bench may differ.
